Tips For Getting Rid Of Your Golf Swing Slice

The first step in being able to correct and get rid of a golf swing slice is to clearly understand what exactly is going on through your golf swing rotation to cause the problem in the first place.

The elements that create the slicing motion are the club face angle at the point of contact with the golf ball and the golf club's path that takes it through impact. When the club face is open and your golf swing is coming inside, you're going to end up with a slicing action.

A good baseball analogy would be that, for a right handed golfer, your left shoulder is flying out or you're opening up too soon, causing your swing to come too far inside.

For correcting a slice, you will also need to correct the golf swing path which starts by keeping your shoulder closed through the shot.  The best way to know if you're accomplishing this is if your left shoulder and chest are facing the golf ball all the way through impact.

In order to keep your shoulder in the proper position and still hit have a good golf swing, you're also going to need to rotate your arms at the elbow so that the club path can square up to the ball.

One of the hard parts of keeping your shoulder in has to do with starting your swing with your lower body and having it get ahead of your upper body.  So if you can start your swing with your hands, which may not be at all easy to do to start with due to the habits that have formed, your body will stay back longer and not pull your shoulder out of position during the swing.

If you can stand in front of a mirror without hitting anything, take a soft practice swing and see what part of your body starts moving first when you start the back swing. The golf swing slice tends to be associated with a swing where the first motion down is from the lower body.  Still standing in front of the mirror, slow everything down and really focus on starting your down swing with just your arms.  It may take a few attempts to keep your lower body still, but slowly you'll be able to coordinate this change in golf swing mechanics.

A great golf swing is based on starting the back swing with the arms while keeping the chest still so that your upper and lower body areas are in sync through the shot, creating the solid contact you're looking for and getting rid of your golf swing slice in the process.
