Golf Swing Training Tips For More Driving Power
In order to get more power in your drivers, let’s look at the areas where golf swing training will have the most impact.
The typical causes of poor driving power are 1) tee height; 2) hand position; 3) foot movement; and 4) ball position.
Let’s look at each of these and as well as how to make the necessary corrections.
With the increase in driver head size, golf balls now tend to be teed up too low. On the more traditional golf club, the standard thinking was to tee the ball about half a ball width above the club face of the driver. This is recommended to increase the probability of making contact in the center of the club where the most power can be generated. If you're using a big headed driver, the same type of adjustment has to be made for the same reasons. Therefore, increase your tee height so that the top half of the ball is above the club face and your golf swing distance is going to increase.
Another golf swing action that can rob you of power is your hand position where the hands get placed too close to the body at set up. From a golf swing mechanics point of view, the closer you are to the club head, the less club velocity you will be able to generate, which again robs you of distance. Conversely, if you can reach even a small amount further during your set up, you've just increased the amount of club speed for the same amount of golf swing rotation, generating more golf swing distance in the process.
Foot movement during the backswing can also impact your driving distance. The lifting of the front foot in particular can cause a reverse weight shift which can actually cause to you hook the golf shot as well. By keeping your front foot still during the backswing, you're going to be in a better position to uncoil your body during follow through, creating more power at impact. After some golf swing practice hits, you should immediately notice an increase in driving power.
Ball position brings us to the end of this installment of golf swing training tips. If the golf ball set up is too far forward or backward, your shot is going to be impacted for power. To get more golf swing distance, position the ball within the width of your front foot according to what makes you the most comfortable and generates the best result.
